17: God's Judgements [Excerpt]
“Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.”” (Revelation 6:1)
The prophet Daniel was divinely instructed to seal up the scroll of his writings until the time of the end. In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John likewise saw the Father on the throne of heaven holding another scroll written both on the inside and also on the back. This scroll was firmly secured with seven seals. The significance of this would have been clearly understood by the Apostle John. The seven seals and double-sided writing were characteristic of a special legal document prepared whenever land was sold in Biblical times. This entitled a willing, financially able and close male relative of the seller to later buy back (or redeem) the land within a certain period of time.[1] In Ruth 4, we see Boaz as the nearest willing relative (kinsman, goel in Hebrew) exercising his right to buy back land previously sold by Naomi’s late husband Elimelech.

We desperately need our world to be bought back from the enemy of our souls, and to be redeemed by our Kinsman Redeemer, the Lord Jesus
Christ, who is not ashamed to call us brothers. This is the reason why, when Jesus takes the scroll in Revelation 5, the four living creatures and the 24 elders sang a new song celebrating how Jesus is worthy to unseal it, because He has redeemed us by His blood. The process of our Kinsman Redeemer purchasing back the entire earth will be a painful one, since each seal He breaks open unleashes a fresh judgement. The seventh seal heralds the seven trumpet judgements. After this come the seven bowl judgements of the wrath of God...
